Southwell Racecourse looking forward to bumper 2016

The North Nottinghamshire track will once again be hosting a mixed programme racing both on the fibresand all-weather surface (flat), as well as jump racing, which will commence on 28th February.

The jumps programme, which runs until November has seen a boost to its prize money in 2016, with a further £40,000 invested, which will ensure that the majority of jump races run at the course will be above the minimum value required by the British Horseracing Authority (“BHA”).

In addition, Southwell Racecourse have reframed the conditions for all selling races in 2016, bringing the rate of commission for all horses sold through this method much closer to that imposed by the major sales houses, a move which will look to offer better value to horsemen.

Feature days in 2016 include the Resident’s Evening on Friday 15 April where the racecourse will be thanking the local community for their ongoing support by offering free entry to watch the evening’s racing, which will be followed by live music.

The evening will also be raising funds for Beaumond House Community Hospice, which offers supportive palliative care to patients with life limiting or terminal illnesses and their families living in Newark area.

In addition to funds raised on the day, the Reuben Foundation will make a £3,000 donation.

The ever popular Ladies Day on Sunday 14th August, will once again give racegoers the opportunity to dress up in their finest and compete for the title of Best Dressed along with an afternoon of jumps racing followed by live music.

Southwell Racecourse Executive Director Mark Clayton said: “2015 was a great year at Southwell and we’re looking forward to hosting another bumper year of racing over the next 12 months.

“We have looked to make sure that the spread of our increased investment in prize money has gone across our jumps programme, and we will be looking to run the vast majority of our jumps races above minimum value for the benefit of as many horsemen as possible.

“Our feature days and evenings will be the highlights of our year, particularly at our free Resident’s Evening in April and, of course, Ladies Day in August which always prove very popular with our racegoers.”
