Smith sizzles in the heat at Donington Park

Mansfield's truck racing ace Ryan Smith is looking to carry on his sizzling pace at Snetterton in September from where he left off at Donington Park.

The 2017 and 2016 championship racer, in his fourth year of Class A Division One racing in the British Truck Racing Championship, is storming ahead in the championship in a bid for the 2018 title.

After recording the fastest lap of 1:25:612 in qualifying, Smith was in pole position for the first race and led it from start to finish.

He completed the race weekend with a record of taking fastest laps in all five races and qualifying, three firsts, a second and third place.

Smith is 48 points clear of his nearest rival with three meetings to go at Snetterton, Pembrey and Brands Hatch left to run.

Smith said: “I have had a fantastic weekend that went wholly to plan, five podiums over the weekend, three first places and a second and third with fastest lap records out of all the five races.

“It’s about getting more points between now and the last race in November at Brands Hatch.”

An excellent race weekend with results to match saw Mansfield’s Smith lead the championship with 175 points and ready to go racing again in September in the next round at Snetterton in Norfolk.
