Skegby man leads England to world bronze

The England 40-45s team managed by Skegby’s Andy Taylor claimed bronze medals at the Masters Hockey World Cup in Rotterdam.

The former Mansfield Hockey Club and North Notts player was part of the coaching set up that took oversaw a 3-2 victory over Germany in the third/fourth place play-off.

England finished top of their group after victories against Ghana 13-1, Wales 9-1, followed by a 2-2 draw with Holland.

The quarter-final paired them against South Africa where they were 5-0 victors, but they lost out 4-3 in the semi-final against Australia, despite taking an early lead.

“It was the greatest moment in my 35 years of hockey,” said Andy.

The England Masters are now preparing for the Home Internationals at Linsnagarvey Hockey Club in Ireland during August.

They start with a practice match against Players Hockey club at Highfields Nottingham on 20th July starting at 2.30pm.

Andy. a former pupil at Quarrydale School, is manager at Belper in domestic hockey.
