Action from Shirebrook against Sandiacre

Shirebrook Town slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Sandiacre Town at the weekend.

And as the game got underway it was a very quiet start with neither goalkeeper having anything to deal with in the opening 25 minutes.

The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when Kye Wade was played through and as the Shirebrook back line tried to claim an off side the lineman flag wasn’t raised and Wade made no mistake as he slid the ball past Harrison Kissane.

Now they had the lead Sandiacre were pushing to extend it and they had chances with Kye Wade going close to getting his second while Harry Goddard and Javanne Smith had chances but all 3 failed to get their chances on target and with Shirebrook not really troubling the Sandiacre during the opening 45 minutes Shirebrook knew they had work to do in the second half.

As the second half got underway Shirebrook were showing much more attacking intent and chances were starting to come with Joe Godfrey and Kian Tansley both went close in the first 5 minutes of the half.

The best chance of the half so far fell to Tent Jules when Keiran Grant cross was headed away by a Sandiacre defender and the ball fell to Jules who hit the ball on the volley and the ball went just wide of the post.

As Shirebrook kept pushing the big talking point of the half came in the 66th minute when Jow Godfrey was played through on goal as he made his way into the box he was taken out by the Sandiacre goalkeeper for what looked like a stone wall penalty, however the referee decided to wave play onn.

As the half went on Shirebrook were becoming more and more frustrated by the tactics of Sandiacre who were taking any chance they got to waste valuable seconds something the man in the middle was very happy to let them do.

As the game went into the final 10 minutes Shirebrook were still pushing to get back into the game and they thought they had done so when Ross Henshaw got his head to a cross but the Sandiacre keeper produced a stunning save to somehow tip the header round the post.

In injury time things would go from bad to worse as tempers boiled over and Shirebrook were reduced to 10 men when Luke Mckernna was given a straight red but no matter how hard they tried Shirebrook just couldn’t get a goal and it was Sandiacre who left with all 3 points.
