Shirebrook Town finish year with draw

Shirebrook Town final assignment of 2025 saw them draw with Staveley Miners Welfare.
As the game got underway the game lived up to its fisty billing with a number of tough tackles being put in by both sides.
However the goalmouth action was few and far between with neither goalkeeper having anything to do in the opening 20 minutes. The game sprung into life not long after the 20 minute mark when Kian Tansley shot.
But this chance would cause Staveley to come to life as they created a number of chances in the next 10 minutes with Jay Jay Cutts, Tom Pawson and Will Wraith all going close for the visitors.
Shirebrook weatherhed that spell of pressure and responded with some chances of their own with Ross Henshaw and Joe Godfrey both having opportunities.
With a minute to go before the break the deadlock was broken by Staveley when Jay-Jay Cuts' cross from the right wing found Will Wraith to head home.
As the second half got underway it was Shirebrook who were doing the early pressing with Joe Godfrey going close and Liam Widdowson having Shirebrook best chance of the game so far as he was played through and, as he attempted to round the keeper, he managed to get his shot away. However the Staveley keeper managed to get back and clear the ball to safety.
Shirebrook would go even closer in the 70th minute when Kian Tansley picked up the ball and drove towards the box beat two defenders and saw his goal bound shot cleared off the line.
As the game went into the final 10 minutes Shirebrook were in all out attack mode and they almost got their reward when Ross Henshaw saw a header hit the post.
But just when it looked like it was going to be another frustrating afternoon for Shirebrook they were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute when Kian Tansley was brought down by the Staveley keeper. Tansley took the penalty and made no mistake to level for a well deserved point.
