Sherwood’s storming start to the year

Sherwood Colliery Swimming Club aces got their New Year off to a storming start last weekend, travelling to Matlock for the 2015 January Open Meet hosted at the ARC Leisure Centre by Ripley Amateur Swimming Club.

In the boys 10 years age group there were sparkling top six finishes for Owen Harding, Jack Armsby and Alex Slaney with Joseph Sadler, Joseph Lewis and David Sroka claiming them for the 11 years.

For the 12-year-old boys Niall Peeters Weem joined Adam Pring, Bailey Ward and Owen Ben Sladen in the top six whilst for the 13-year-olds, it was Owen Ottaway. Joining Kieran Harby in the 14 years boys category were Matthew Hull, Owen Wakefield and Tom Fletcher.
For the younger girls, nine-year-old Isabel Fletcher collected her top six award alongside Gabriella Beardsley and Suranne Cave in the 10 years age group.

Rebecca Hyatt & Amelia Tunnicliffe joined them in the 11 years alongside Abbie Scott and Rebecca Flisher in the 12 years.

Evie Timms collected her top six awards in the 13 years age group alongside Emily Keen, Krystle Priestley and Erica Brown with Jade Clarke rounding off the girls’ medal fest in the 15 years and over.

Just being pipped to the medals, but achieving new and improved personal best and/or County Championship qualifying times were Shannon Barrett (12), Olivia Slaney (13), & Alexander Peeters Weem (10).

The squads now continue their training leading up to the County Championships next month, while starting the defence of their 2014 Premier League Champions title by competing in the first round of the Nottinghamshire Sports Centre League and Notts ASA Stage 3 Gala League.
