Sherwood settle for third

Continuing the defence of their 2013 League title, Sherwood Colliery SC’s young swimmers had to settle for third place in the final of the Derbys & Notts Junior Swimming League competition in Derby.

As one of only four Nottinghamshire-based clubs to qualify for the final, the youngsters, aged nine to 12 years, battled their way through 47 individual and team relay events.

But they came up against tough opposition from a talented and determined City of Derby squad and, in a very hard fought competition, had to settle for third place on the night and third place overall behind the league winners City of Derby and runners-up Nottingham Leander, but ahead of Calverton & Bingham, Dronfield Dolphins and Sutton SC.

The young squad performed well in both the individual and relay events, and team members Lily Boseley (12) and Owen Ottaway (12) collected the third-place pennant and bronze medals on behalf of the squad.
