Shaws shine for Harriers at Booth League race

Highlight of the race was a fine performance from Phil Shaw, who completed the race in 22nd place and won his age category on the night.

Not to be outdone, daughter Hannah continued her fine run of form in the event, finishing second junior lady and after three of the five race series comfortably leads the category.

The ladies enjoyed more success with two more seconds in age group with Sue Bellingham finishing 65th overall and Maddy Collinge 72nd.

These four were supported in the men’s race by Gary Morley 57th, Paul Scott 100th, Martin Fickling 105th, Ben Wootton 157th, Julian Wood 171st, Bob Scott 177th, Tim Richardson 248th and Trevor Hiscox 274th.

In the ladies, Rachael Chadwick finished 77th, Amanda Shaw 80th and Julie Bell 99th.

On Friday night seven Harriers competed in the Notts AC 10-mile road race, which also incorporated the 10 mile county championship.

In very wet conditions evergreen Andy Wetherill had a superb race, finishing 28th in 58.10.

He was followed by Jordan Boam, making a welcome return to racing, finishing 67th in 63.37 and then Nigel Watkins, who finished 92nd in 66.13.

This was Nigel’s first race for the club since his recent return and he is going to be a massive asset to the club’s masters team going forward.

Other competitors on the night were Jonathan Hardy, finishing 140th in 71.58, the fast-improving Kerrie Allen 221st in 79.50, Catherine Hough ran a big personal best, finishing 249th in 82.49, Jackie Duers finished 282nd in 88.48 and Denise Winfield 315th in 95.10.

On Sunday three athletes travelled to Liverpool to compete in the Rock and Roll half or full marathon.

On a wet chilly day and with over 12,000 competing Matthew Bradbury competed in the full marathon, finishing in 3.56, Maddy Collinge and Sarah Bradbury competed in the half with Sarah running a big personal best of 2.11 and Maddy winning the over 65 age group in a time of 1.51.53.

On the track it’s been a difficult week with disappointment this weekend as the Schools County Championships was called off due to the track and field being waterlogged.

The weekend before many of the club’s young athletes had recorded superb times at the mini league event.

However, an issue with the starting gun meant the times had to be declared void.

The highlight of the mini league meeting has to be the continued dominance of the U13 girls.

Once again the team won the age category with fantastic performances throughout and are in a very strong position to win the series overall.

The team of Jessica Lake, Kelly Seaman, Kelsey Pearce, Paige Vick, Courtney Spencer, Ellie Sheppard, Sophie Brown, Holly-May Spencer and Tathya Bascombe on the day put in fantastic after fantastic personal performance.

The U15 girls were represented by the superb Daisy Smith, who continues to put in great performances, and Abi Eardley and Mollie Rowden competed with distinction in the U17 girls. Really pleasing for the club was having four girls making debut performances at U11 level, with a string of fine performances from Beth Hamilton, Isabel Evans, Jessica Reavill and Alex Foster.

The club also had two boys Kwame Miezah and Edward Harley compete well at the event.

This weekend was also the Midland U20 track and field championships and Alex Rieley competed in the 1500m, just missing out on a medal to finish fourth in 4.05 in a tactical rac
