Selston send Boots packing to stay top of the Premier Division

Selston maintained their lead at the top of the league with a 4-2 win over Boots Athletic on Saturday.

Selston took the lead after just two minutes when Dom Airey’s cross was headed home by 16-year-old Tom Widdowson from close range.

It was then 2-0 on 25 minutes as Wayne Cooke fired in from eight yards out following a corner.

Boots’ Mitchell Jackson pulled one back just after half-time on the rebound after Jake Simpson had saved from a corner, and the visitors were soon level when the ball was given away in the centre of the park and substitute Alex Palmer finished well.

The lead was regained just three minutes later as Damien James’ cross was turned in by defender Chris Hutchinson for an own goal, the win wrapped up on 78 minutes when James found Cooke and he finished well to seal the points with Boots’ Ricky Robinson sent off late on.

Awsworth Villa, meanwhile, fell 2-0 at home to Bilborough.

In Division One, third-placed Underwood Villa didn’t play but Kimberley MW Reserves won 4-0 at Linby CW Reserves, Luke Hodgman, Danny Chaplin, Rhys Powell and Corey Wilson on target.

Division Two action saw Underwood Villa Reserves run out 2-1 winners over Keyworth United Reserves, Sam Tring and Joe Wright with the Villa goals.

Second-placed Watnall Athletic and third-placed Kimberley MW AFC didn’t play.
