Selston move up to second with home win over Awsworth Villa

There was plenty of Notts Senior League action both on Saturday and in midweek as the season nears its climax.

On Saturday, Selston movedback into second with a 3-1 win over Awsworth Villa.

The hosts took the lead just before half-time when Damien James set up Steve Smith to finish from eight yards out.

Dominic Airey swept home the second on 53 minutes before Perry Marriott’s header from a James corner made it 3-0 three minutes later.

Luke Henson quickly pulled one back for Villa but Selston’s points were safe.

In Division One, Underwood Villa drew 1-1 with Linby Reserves while bottom club Awsworth Villa Reserves were involved in a 4-4 thriller with Radcliffe Reserves.

Division Two action saw Watnall Athletic romp to an 8-0 win over Sandhurst Reserves to go third in the table, Joe Brookes scoring four of the goals, Martin Ward with two and Ben Howarth and Kieran Miles also on target.

On Wednesday night in Division One, Awsworth Villa Reserves had another goal-filled game as they beat Netherfield 5-3, while Kimberley MW Res won 3-2 at Radcliffe with goals from Gavin Powell, Jack Tucker and 16-year-old Arran Lewis.

In Division Two, Kimberley MW AFC fell to a shock 2-0 defeat to Sandhurst Reserves and are seven points behind leaders Aspley Park with three games in hand.
