The day will be filled with football and plenty of other things for those not so interested in the beautiful game, with the idea of the annual event to engage with the local community and showcase the football club.

The club is run by a team of dedicated, hard-working volunteers who give up their time to give the local young people of the parish a focus and a platform to socialise, bond and play football.

There will be five junior teams in action from 10am and at 3pm the club’s soccer school (5-7 year olds) will have their first ever match together.

On the main pitch the local theme continues with two massive derbies; from midday Selston FC Reserves take on Underwood Villa FC Reserves with both sides looking for bragging rights, then it’s the main event as Selston’s first team play Eastwood CFC in the Central Midlands league.

The Parishioners are having a remarkable first season in the CML and with six games to go a win will move them one step closer to a possible league title.

With the community in mind, this year the club have asked Selston Scout group to run and organise the all-day barbecue with all proceeds going to their organisation.

Selston Town Cricket Club will also be present, offering information on their junior and adult sections and hosting a cricketing challenge.

In the marquee there will find several local businesses showcasing their goods and products on various stalls.

Milkshakes and smoothies will be on sale as well as ‘geek chic’, handmade wooden home products and many other things. To go alongside this there will be bouncy castles and slides, a petting zoo and face painting.

There will be a licensed bar, which this year is situated in the parish hall and will be stocked with locally-brewed real ales and cider supplied by The Naked Brewer, from The Corner Pin in nearby Westwood.

After the daytime fun, there is an evening of live music planned with a sports auction boasting a signed Paul Scholes shirt, signed Notts County shirt and a chance to play on the pitch at Nottingham Forest among other things.

The evening entertainment is provided by all local talent with Selston’s very own top band The Rapids plus Kane Black who played the event last year and Charlotte Pynegar from Westwood.
