Significant changes have been put into place for the forthcoming season, with three new teams joining the club and the men’s first team entering a new league.

Selston will play in the Central Midlands League South next season after several years in the Notts Senior League, with local derbies against the likes of Eastwood CFC, Swanwick PR, Linby CW, Pinxton, Hucknall Town and Hucknall Rolls Royce Leisure set to grace their fixture calendar.

And Weston, who will be assisted by former Eastwood Town star Gary Breach, says the new challenge is one he and his squad are relishing.

He said: “The CML South will be a strong league next season and a great test for us.

“We were disappointed last year as reigning champions to not only been denied the chance of promotion after winning the league but then to end up finishing fourth, although we were contenders until the last couple of weeks when we just fell away.

“But we’ve kept the bulk of the squad together and with a couple of additions I think we will fit well into the new league.”

Weston added his players are likely to enjoy the CML more given the quality of grounds and levels of support some clubs possess.

“You’ve got clubs like Hucknall and Eastwood among others who have better surfaces, fanbases and grounds which make for a much better atmosphere, so that will be a good experience all round for our lads,” he said.

“There will be lots of local derbies too which will be fantastic, especially at this level where players tend to be from the local area and have often played for the opposition before as well, so the rivalry is that bit greater.”

The club has also created a reserve team for next season, with former Selston and Sutton Town striker Lee Widdowson at the helm.

The squad will consist of plenty of Selston’s U17/18 team, who have just completed their stint at that age level by finishing runners-up in the Chad Mansfield League, complemented with other local talent.

Development officer Jay Clifford said: “The inception of this team is seen as another building block in the pathway to adult football for young players playing in Selston teams and we hope to also attract other local youngsters to the club.

“We have another team just entering the U17/18 age group and both U15 and U14 teams following close behind.”

Many of the club’s players, committee members and fans are undertaking a sponsored bike ride to Skegness on Saturday, July 11th. If you’d like to sponsor anybody, call Mark Wilson on 07973 364188
