Second-half goals see Selston prevail over West Bridgford

Selston remain top of the NSL Senior Division after a 3-1 win at fellow high-flyers West Bridgford on Saturday.

After a goalless first-half, Selston took the lead when Sean Gregory ran from his own half and beat five players only for the goalkeeper to bring him down for a penaly, Gregory duly obliging from the spot on 54 minutes.

It was 2-0 on 70 minutes when Jay Cooper flicked on for Gregory on the edge of the box and he rounded the keeper before netting his second.

Aaron Large pulled a goal back from the spot for West Bridgford four minutes later, but Gregory then turned provider late on to set up Dominic Airey who bent in the third.

Despite Selston being top, Wollaton remain in second and with three games in hand.

Awsworth Villa were out of action, as were Underwood Villa, Awsworth Reserves and Kimberley MW Reserves in Division One and Kimberley MW AFC in Division Two.

Watnall Athletic’s impressive season continued, however, with an 8-0 demolition of hosts Nottinghamshire Reserves.

Mackenzy Henson struck a hat-trick and there were two each for Stephen Benbow and Paul Randle as well as a goal for Joe Brookes.

Underwood Villa Reserves were heavily beaten 8-1 at Keyworth United Reserves.
