Blidworth complete impressive away win

A hat-trick for young striker Lewis Weaver was the highlight for the visitors as he added to goals from fellow forwards Josh Brentnall and Tony Edwards.

The home side’s consolations came at the end of each half as Matt Ancliffe and Robert Gill got themselves one a piece.

Delighted Blidworth manager Lewis Saxby said “I thought we were the better side from start to finish today.

“I felt that we took control of the game from the beginning in tough conditions and we could and probably should have had more goals.”

Blidworth goalkeeper Jamie Davies had to show reactions as sharp as the chill factor in the early stages as he was quickly called into action to block close range shots from both Matt Antcliffe and Keyworth captain Adam Taylor in quick succession.

Lewis Weaver opened the scoring after Tony Edwards played him in when a goalkick was held up in the wind.

Josh Brentall doubled the lead when he headed home after 18 minutes.

And it soon became a three goal lead when Weaver got his second of the game after the half hour mark.

Tony Edwards was given time and space to receive the ball on the left wing before playing an inch perfect cross between two central defenders into the on-rushing path of Weaver who headed home from close range.

James Price had the home side’s next two chances as they looked to find a foothold back into the game. He first saw an hopeful cross from the left side smothered by Davis before seeing a long range free-kick float high over the right post.

Matt Ancliffe gave them a glimmer of hope as he got a goal back for the Greens in first half added time.

But the three goal cushion was re-applied early in the second half though as Weaver completed his hat-trick nine minutes after the restart.

Keyworth looked like they had at least had the final piece of the goal scoring action when they got their second in the 85th minute as Robert Gill saw his shot from outside the box bundle into the corner underneath Jamie Davis.

Unfortunately for the home side, that wasn’t to be the last of the goals as Blidworth wrapped up the tie with a fifth in the last minute of normal time.

This time, it was the creator who got to get in on the action as Edwards was given the simplest of tap ins from close range after the keeper had already dived down anticipating a Weaver shot.
