AFC Mansfield manager Rudy Funk praised the club's volunteers after they thrashed rivals Clipstone 9-0 on derby day.

Six different goalscorers on an extremely snowy Saturday afternoon compounded the misery for Alan Widdowson’s young side.

“I’d like to start by giving huge praise to our volunteers. It’s a real gripe of mine when games are constantly postponed, so to have yet another game played at this stage of the season is crucial for us.”

While The Bulls put the bottom-side to the sword, only one other fixture had been deemed playable – ensuring they opened up a 10 point gap over their nearest rivals, Pontefract Collieries.

“It was clear to see the difference in league position today and at the end of the day you have to play the game. For a team like us, goal difference could be crucial so today was an important win for us” Funk added.

AFC Mansfield blew their opponents away mid-way through the first-half with three goals in as many minutes from Ollie Fearon, skipper Matty Wilson and Connor Smythe.

They then added a fourth through Fearon again – before The Bulls’ top scorer was substituted after colliding with heavily with Clipstone’s Olly Ashton just minutes prior.

Craig Mitchell replaced him and duly obliged with a second-half brace, alongside goals from Philip Buxton and Lynton Karkach to complete the rout.

After a much closer affair in October at The Worksop Van Hire Stadium, the significant difference in performance shows just how far Funk’s side have come in their promotion push.

And with Garforth Town next up it should be another three points towards their ultimate target.
