Riley pops up with a stoppage time winner to keep Selston top

Selston maintained their lead at the top of the Notts Senior League on Saturday with a 2-1 success at Bingham Town.

Selston went in front on 18 minutes when Ben Moore pulled the ball back to Wayne Cooke and he found the net from 12 yards out.

After fifth-placed Bingham levelled on 58 minutes through Jamie Archer, it looked like the game was heading for a draw.

But as the game entered stoppage time, Joe Riley nodded home a corner at the near post to steal the points, Perry Marriott’s late red card not enough to spoil the day.

There was no such luck for third-bottom Awsworth Villa, however, as they were beaten 6-1 at Beeston.

In Division One, Underwood Villa remain on the heels of leaders Newark Flowserve after a 2-0 win at home to Gedling Southbank, Josh Niblett and Preston Robinson getting the Villa goals.

Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves fell 2-1 at Wollaton Reserves, Danny Chaplin with Welfare’s goal, before on Wednesday night Welfare then beat Gedling Southbank 2-1, Ian Shepherd with both of the goals.

Awsworth Villa Reserves are still rock bottom, a 2-1 defeat at home to second bottom Magdala Amateurs not helping their cause as they now lie eight points adrift.

In Division Two, Kimberley MW AFC remain on the title chase as they beat Cotgrave Reserves 1-0 thanks to Danny Walsh’s goal, while Underwood Villa Reserves lost 5-1 to Ashland Reserves, Jordan Roberts on target.
