RACING TIP OF THE DAY
Sunday 12th October
DESERT FORCE
Goodwood 3.05 WIN
Richard Hannon’s expensive, well-bred two-year-old must have disappointed connections on his first couple of starts because he failed to deliver the goods after being sent off a warm favourite. However, the boot was on the other foot at Newbury last time when he made all to fend off an odds-on market-leader. A bit of dig in the ground was probably the reason for the improvement, so he should handle conditions today when he steps into nursery company for the first time. Top weight, a wide stall and a step-up in trip from 6f are all potential negatives. But it’s not the strongest of races, the ground should reduce the impact of the draw as they tend to cross over to the stands’ rail on entering the straight at Goodwood on a soft surface, while his pedigree suggests 7f should not be a problem for a colt whose dam won the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes as a juvenile.
