Raceline: Tip of the day, 4th October

For the second successive afternoon, we hit the woodwork yesterday with a heavily-backed favourite. Here’s hoping for third time lucky.

Thursday 4th October

MAGIQUE

Warwick 3.10 WIN

On a quiet debut by the Yarmouth seaside last month, Jeremy Noseda’s two-year-old filly was sent off an unconsidered 20/1 shot and never put in the race by jockey Jamie Spencer. But she caught the eye with the way she finished, suggesting huge improvement could be expected next time. Noseda has now found this weak contest in which to get off the mark and for the ride, he has booked William Buick, who boasts a 25% strike rate for the trainer in recent years. The soft ground is unlikely to inconvenience the daughter of Royal Ascot winner Jeremy who is certainly bred to develop into a useful sort. She’s a half-sister to Grandeur, who has enjoyed a successful season for the same trainer, while the dam is a half-sister to a Doncaster Cup winner and hails from the family of a French Oaks heroine.
