Raceline: Tip of the day

Tuesday 16th October
SEEK AGAIN
Leicester 2.10 WIN
We’ve reached the stage of the Flat season where two-year-old maidens, such as the 7f affair at Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting last month, require close attention. One of the deepest races of its type so far this autumn, it was won in most taking fashion by John Gosden’s colt, owned by Khalid Abdulla. A well-bred son of Breeders’ Cup winner Speightstown, he attracted significant pre-race support and did not let his followers down, tracking the strong pace before quickening when shaken up and forging home impressively. Gosden now intends to follow up in this conditions contest before a tilt at something juicier next spring. I am a shade concerned that he’s seen fit to apply a hood, while I’m sure he wouldn’t want the ground to get any softer. But there will still be some long faces at the yard of the champion trainer-elect if the powerfully-built juvenile fails to oblige.
MONDAY: SPIFER UNPLACED
