Raceline: Tip of the Day 20th December
Thursday December 22
TWO ROCKERS
Towcester 1.40 WIN
For those of us who fancy Michel Le Bon to pay for Christmas by winning the Welsh Grand National on December 27, it was encouraging to see this young relative advertising the credentials of the family so positively when he made his seasonal re-appearance and UK debut three weeks ago. Alan King’s five-year-old son of Milan, described by connections as “a gorgeous, big horse”, has been bought from the Irish point-to-point field for £80,000 as a long-term project, with staying chases in mind. But given the way he won his first novices’ hurdle, they’re going to have fun with him before then too. Despite keenness early on and greenness late on, he galloped gamely up Towcester’s testing home straight and must have some engine. Now he’s back at the same track and over the same 2m5f trip and although he must defy a 7lb penalty, it’s a weaker race. King reports that he is thriving at home, so my sole concern is that Robert Thornton takes over from Wayne Hutchinson, who is a far better jockey, in my opinion.
