SNAKE EYES
Newbury 1.20 WIN
Shockwaves reverberated around Kempton after the defeat, at 1/5 favourite, of Nicky Henderson’s JP McManus-owned four-year-old on his UK debut last month. But to my eyes, he didn’t perform half as badly as most suggested and was only touched off by a very promising sort. I am certainly happy to give him another chance today, even though this is a stronger race. The form of his only other racecourse appearance, in a Bumper at Fairyhouse in Ireland, has worked out unbelievably well, while Henderson’s comments about him as a horse with “huge potential, a lot of class and a great turn of foot” should not be allowed to fall on deaf ears. With one or two decent rivals in opposition today, we might even bag a working man’s price!
