Raceline: Tip of the Day 13th December

No luck with the weather yesterday. But the frost covers have been down at Taunton, so its meeting today should go ahead.

Thursday December 13

GAS LINE BOY

Taunton 2.20 WIN

Even though it is his local track, Minehead trainer Philip Hobbs has a poor record at Taunton, where he has saddled only seven winners in the last three seasons. But he can score with this front-running novice hurdler, owned by the Mick Fitzgerald Racing Club. After the game six-year-old had opened his account impressively at Wincanton in October, the big question last time, when he encountered a better race, was: just how good is he? The answer was positive because he had all his rivals cooked until a classy favourite from the Paul Nicholls yard, receiving weight, swept by. He must shoulder a 7lb penalty again today, but having won a point-to-point in Ireland, he is sure to relish the step-up to 3m.
