What new Government guidelines mean for elite sport fans, grassroots games and gyms

Crowds of up to 4,000 supporters look set to be allowed to attend outdoor sporting events once the national lockdown ends on December 2, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has revealed.

However, whether you are allowed to go to a game or not will depend what tier your area comes under when the new tougher structure is announced later this week.

New guidelines suggest up to 4,000 fans - or 50 per cent of stadium capacity, whichever is the lower figure - will be allowed to attend outdoor sporting events in tier one.

In tier two the number drops to 2,000 while in tier three areas there will be an outright ban on supporters.

This new system is in place for elite sport, which has had a blanket ban on supporters since March.

It remains unclear whether this also incorporates football clubs below step 2 of the National League System, who have been allowed to operate with limited crowds.

The ban on outdoor grassroots sport will also be lifted from December 2.

It is expected that grassroots games will be allowed to continue no matter the tier participating teams come under.

Gyms are also set to re-open as soon as lockdown is lifted.

MPs will vote on the Prime Minister's proposals this week.
