Peter Moores says Nottinghamshire will dust themselves down and be ready to go against Worcestershire

Tim Bresnan led the way on the final day as Warwickshire pulled off a stunning victory to extend Nottinghamshire’s dismal record in first-class cricket to 29 matches without a County Championship win.

Notts will now be aiming to end that woeful run when they travel to Worcestershire on Thursday.

“It was a great game going down to the wire and they got over the line,” said Moores. “We have to take it on the chin and get ourselves ready for the next game.

“On another day we would have got the last three wickets that we needed, but that is sport.

“It hurts and you have just got to take it. You are gutted to lose when you put your heart and soul into it.

“It rips your heart out in some ways and the dressing room is hurting.

“I can't fault the effort the lads put in. We had a red hot go at it and it was a great advert for four day cricket

““We have shown a lot of fight and will dust ourselves down and be ready for Worcestershire.”

But Moores knows he will need more from the side’s top order to bolster their chances of getting victory.

He added: “We have not fired as a top order yet and that is something we need to focus on. It has not clicked yet.

“We started day three in a strong position but they clawed us back and kept themselves in the game. The game went backward and forward, it is what makes four day cricket what it is.

“It is hard to win them and you try to get momentum and keep it when you have got it.”

On day four, Bresnan finished unbeaten on 68, sharing a stand of 113 with Olly Stone as Warwickshire chased down 333 to win by three wickets.

Bresnan had an escape on 56 when wicketkeeper Tom Moores put down a difficult chance off Stuart Broad.

Notts had been ahead since midway through the opening day and felt they were in pole position when a wicket in the last over of the third day left Warwickshire 85 for three, still 247 runs behind.
