Kyle Ryde shows his class to fend off illness and claim three British Superbikes championship podiums at Cadwell Park

Champion Kyle Ryde showed his class to bag three podiums despite being under the weather at the latest round of the British Superbikes championship at Cadwell Park.

The Jacksdale racer, who also bagged the most points of any rider over the weekend to extend his championship lead, finished second in Sunday’s race before finishing third in Monday’s spring race and third in race three.

“It was a good race. Obviously, I got another good start. I passed Brad (Ray) at the end of the back straight and I just dug in for five, six, laps, but to be honest Ryan (Vickers) was a little bit too fast for how I felt on the bike,” said the Nitrous Coin Nitrous competitions rider on race three.

“I couldn’t actually catch up anywhere, so once he gained a tenth, that was it. I was always another tenth behind and I made a bit of a mistake at the Gooseneck and Brad passed me up the inside and when he caught Ryan up within a lap and a half I couldn’t keep up and from then on i just tried to have some sort of rhythm to get to the end in one piece.”

Ryde has now failed to make the podium just once in 23 races this season with his consistency winning him Caldwell’s King of the Mountain trophy for most points won at the race for a second year in a row.

The title-chaser added he was pleased with his consistency, though admitted that had his rivals not fallen over the weekend the trophy could well have gone elsewhere.

“I’ve had a good weekend, just consistent,” he added. “I think Brad and Ryan could have won it if the had not fell off yesterday - I think these two, if they’d not made the mistakes yesterday, one of these two would have definitely had the King of the Mountain trophy.”
