Edwinstowe Cricket Club get new state-of-the-art-nets

Edwinstowe Community Cricket Club is celebrating the successful opening of its brand-new nets.

The new two-bay artificial net facility at the club’s Forest Corner ground officially opened on Friday 22 May, providing local players with access to high-quality training facilities right on their doorstep.

The project forms part of a wider package of improvements made possible through funding secured from Harworth Group plc, a leading regeneration and strategic land owner and developer, linked to their investment at Thoresby Vale.

A total of £57,732 was allocated through a combination of Open Space Sports and Community Facilities contributions, administered by Newark and Sherwood District Council, to support both the construction of the nets and the installation of solar panels on the clubhouse.

Mike Wigglesworth, Chairman of Edwinstowe Community Cricket Club, said: "This is a ‘game changer’. If you had been involved with Edwinstowe CCC, like me, (30+ years as Chairman) you will know what this means and what this can do! Ten years ago there was no cricket, having a history of 150 years at the Forest Corner. Now, we have over 130 youngsters including 4 age group hardball teams, more than 60 Ladies as well as 3 Senior teams, two playing in the Bassetlaw League.

"Those youngsters, some of whom started ALL STARS in 2017, are now playing senior cricket with their dads! That is the most pleasing assessment I can make. In the last couple of years, since starting hardball cricket, their progress has been on hold. With this new facility we can let them loose, Recent performances have already supported this.”
