WELBECK Colliery have fallen to second place in the Nottinghamshire Premier League after slipping to their first defeat of the season.
They lost by 92 runs to West Indian Cavaliers at Birchover Park, giving the Cavs their first win in three games.
The visitors won the toss and chose to field first, dismissing their opposition for 213, with Luke Waterhouse (3-39) and Jonathan Ball (4-29) continuing their good form and the Cavaliers’ runs coming from Usman Afzaal (32), Dominic Williamson (33) and Alex Tudor (30).
But the Welbeck innings ground to a stuttering halt when they were dismissed inside 36 overs for just 121.
Robert French was unbeaten on 54, but star performer Imran Ali took 5-34 from just seven overs - including a hat-trick.
Third-placed Cavaliers are only 15 points behind Welbeck in the table, while Clifton now top the league after a comprehensive defeat of Nottinghamshire Academy.
Caythorpe secured their first win of the season by beating Mansfield Hosiery Mills by 39 runs in a low-scoring affair.
They batted first but were dismissed for just 144, with Mansfield’s Stephen Ludlam leading the rout with 5-35.
But Caythorpe swept to their first 20 pointer when they skittled out the Hosiery Mills for just 105 in 34 overs.
Cuckney came close to beating Papplewick, but had to be content with a losing draw in the end.
The visitors made 199 for 9 while Cuckney closed their innings on 192 for 8, after Lucas Carlisle did his best to push them over the line with an undefeated 75.
