Farnsfield, who came too close for comfort to relegation last term, entertained newly-promoted Wollaton, who won the Gunn And Moore South Notts League in 2017.

Choosing to bowl first, they soon had the new boys in trouble, and eventually dismissed them for 149 in the 46th over.

Ben Kitt (4-36) book-ended the innings with a pair of early wickets and two more at the death, while Matthew Roberts picked up 3-24 in the middle. The only Wollaton batsmen to get on top of them were Nisar Abbasi with 39 and Tom Young with 38.

In reply, Farnsfield looked sure to collect a win when easing to 132-4. But their tail folded and they were bowled out for 144 in 40.2 overs.

Each of their top six batsmen made a start but couldn’t go on, and the only significant knock came from Steven Musgrove (pictured) with 31. The wickets were shared by Jasmes Cox (4-38), Kade Shiel, Abbasi and Sunil Sharma.

Four of the day’s scheduled matches were re-arranged for later in the season, but one other that took place saw Kimberley (114-5) win at Hucknall (110).
