Notts girls take national pool title

The Nottinghamshire Ladies pool team who are based at Phoenix Cue Sports in Eastwood have been crowned winners at the EPA Inter-County National Championships in Great Yarmouth.

This season they have won the two major titles organised by the English Pool Association, this victory adding to the win at the Ladies National Knock-Out Cup in November.

The team had some real battles over the weekend including playing reigning champions Kent who have dominated the game for years.

The ‘Green Army’ met Cleveland in the final where they came back from 20-18 down to win 23-20.

Team captain Jo Coe said: “This is the first time the Nottinghamshire team have won either competition, so to win both is a major achievement and I am so proud of all the ladies and the supporters.”

The team have six international players, including Amy Beauchamp who became European singles champion in Malta at the end of February, where she also won the European Championships with the England team.

Welsh International Kirsty Davies is the current world champion.

Geoff Wilson, chairman of the EPA and from Nottingham himself, said: “Nottinghamshire is home to some of the country’s top female players and our county should be celebrating the achievements of the Nottinghamshire ladies pool team”

The full team consisted of Kim Beresford, Demi Stanley, Kerry Griffiths (England international), Brenda Payne, Jodie Holt (Scottish international), Joanna Coleman, Andrea Green, Jo Coe (team captain and Northern Ireland international), Siobhan Atkinson-Want, Paula Smith, Julie Crocker , Amy Beauchamp (England international), Kirsty Davies (Welsh international), Sarah Taylor, Sarah Coxon (Welsh international) and Pam Turner.
