Notts end friendlies with first loss

After last week’s comfortable victory against higher opposition Chesterfield, Notts travelled to Nottingham to face a Boots side with several new players.

Notts were without William Butler and fellow first team players Moss and Barton, but welcomed back Josh Singleton for his first run out of the season.

Boots drew first blood from a penalty corner, but Notts soon replied when a powerful flick from Greer was well saved by the keeper only to drop to Allen Butler, who made no mistake from five yards.

The rest of the half Notts will want to forget as they were second to every ball and fell away dramatically as Boots led 4-1 at the break.

The remainder of the game was played out without further score and more credit has to go to the Boots side, who controlled the tempo of the game and the possession of the ball.

The only bright spark for Notts were the performances of goal keeper Paul Unwin and defender Matthew Cooper, who both shone in a Notts team devoid of teamwork and effort.

This Saturday Notts start out in the newly-formed Midlands Two league, where they will face Wellingborough (2pm) at Manor Park Sports Complex - all support is welcome.
