Title dreams in tatters for Kyle Ryde after running out of fuel seconds from finishing line

Ryde was leading the Championship’s penultimate race and was just seconds away from being champion before disaster struck.

He eventually finished in 27th and had to watch his title-rivals breeze past him.

Ride now sits in second spot just one point behind Joe Collier with just one race left at Brands Hatch.

It had all started so well for Ride, who began the race in pole position following a superb qualifying run,

As the lights went out for Sunday’s race Ride and Reid raced towards Copse corner.

By the end of lap one, and after a few more scrapes, they settled down to some normality with Ryd, Reid, and Taz Mackenzie leading the pack around.

Mackenzie went down on the following lap and then another bunch of riders fell also, bringing out the safety car to enable the carnage to be cleared out of the way of the other machines.

As the safety car turned into the pitlane on lap six, an explosion of testerone happened and the battle began, with Kyle & Reid duelling again.

But, by the end of lap six, Reid crashed out, perhaps just pushing that little too much.

Ryde was given his pit board information showing second place man was Twyman 1.4 seconds down and all the youngster had to do now was to keep a cool head and win this race and the Superstock Championship trophy was his to hold!

Ryde was into a good rhythm and was taking more time out the pursing pack of Twyman, Collier and Spanish rider Aulestia by a margin of almost 3.5 seconds. The final lap came and with this large margin, it looked almost certain that Ryde was to be crowned the 2014 British Superstock Champion.

But, as Ryde approached Luffield, the bike suddenly cut-out after running dry of petrol.

Second place man Twyman, who also happens to share the same team and pit crew, also ran out of fuel to left the race their for the tacking for Championship contender Joe Collier.

With Joe Collier now leading the Championship by one point, Kyle now goes to the final round at Brands Hatch in second place with Reid in third, all will go down to the chequered flag once again and determine who will be the 2014 British Superstock Champion.
