Kyle Ryde keeps up British Supersport 600cc title push

Kyle Ryde remains just eight points behind British Supersport 600cc Championship leader Luke Stapleford after a strong performance at Brands Hatch.

Ryde overcame a poor start off the grid during Saturday’s race and was around 5th place going down the steep paddock hill bend, whilst Stapleford, eager to make amends after a tough time in the previous round at Knockhill, hit the front with Irwin chasing him hard.

Ryde managed to claw his way up to the front riders and eventually took over second place as Irwin had thrown away his chances.

But, as Ryde began to challenge, he soon realised that he wasn’t going to be able to match the pace of the Triumph of Stapleford, who was able to ease to victory in the first of the weekend’s two races by a little over three seconds.

Ryde had a much better start in the main race on Sunday and found himself at the sharp end with Stapleford and was looking for a win.

The title challengers were setting a blistering pace and Stapleford was setting new lap records, whilst Ryde was finding it hard to match both the pace and the machine of Stapleford.

By lap seven Ryde was still in a good second place only 0.7 seconds behind Stapleford, but Ryde was almost six seconds in front of third place man Reid.

Stapleford continued to show the pace and eventually went on to win the race as Ryde was forced to settle for second spot and more valuable Championship points.
