Fans flock to back local ace Walker

Ollerton ace, MCE British Superbike rider Chris Walker, expects a big turnout of fans this weekend at local circuit Donington Park, which hosts round nine of the MCE British Superbike Championship.

He will be looking to better his successful weekend two weeks ago at Cadwell Park.

‘Stalker’ Walker finished both races in sixth position and Pete Extance, team manager for Quattro Plant Kawasaki said: “Cadwell Park was a great weekend with Chris putting in two fantastic rides.”

Walker’s championship-winning Quattro Plant Kawasaki ZX-10R has showed promise since the start of the season back at the beginning of April at Brands Hatch where it all started.

Donington Park is always special for Chris and his fans, where thousands turned out last year to see him, and the circuit expects the same this weekend, Walker being the oldest rider on the grid and veteran of over 235 BSB races.

Two weeks before Cadwell Park saw Chris and the Quattro Plant Kawasaki Team at Oulton Park for a tough and frustrating weekend for them.

The weekend was a triple header and Walker and the team had plenty of work ahead and qualified in 11th position out of the 22 riders, getting the weekend off to a good start finishing in ninth.

The team needed the points to get Walker into the top six and a Showdown place.

After a lightning start to the second race, disaster struck and his race was over before it had begun coasting to a halt with a gearbox issue.

The final race of the weekend saw Walker start from the sixth and penultimate row on the start grid.

But in his usual way ‘Stalker’ starting the first lap in 15th he made his way to position ninth by half race distance and a few hectic laps saw him finish in 12 position.

Two weeks ago he went to Cadwell Park with 86 points and a ninth position in the Championship, and he took two sixth places with work on the bike’s suspension needed between the two outings.

So 20 points from the two races now leaves Walker ninth in the Championship and 29 points behind sixth-placed Jon Kirkham ahead of this weekend.

The big question now is can he still make the Showdown?

Chad gave readers the chance to see the action for themselves by entering a competition to win tickets for Donington Park and the lucky winners going to the meeting are: Luke Smith, of Gedling, Graham Cooper, of Sleaford, Peter Merry, of Mansfield, Lucy Drury, of New Ollerton and Ken Ballinger, of Wigan.
