Birchalls confident of track return
Mansfield’s Birchall brothers are confident they will be back in World Sidecar Championship action this weekend as Ben recovers quickly from serious hand injuries from a 120mph crash at the Isle of Man TT.
Ben paid a return visit to the hospital on Thursday to see Mike Hayton, an orthopaedic consultant who was happy with the way that Ben’s hand is progressing.
Ben said: “The incredible work done by Mike Hayton, who performed the complex operation on my hand, has really speeded up the healing process to the point where I am pretty sure we can make the World championship race in Assen at the weekend.”
The race takes place as one of the support races to the MotoGP championship round at the Dutch circuit with two qualifying sessions on Thursday ahead of the 16-lap race at 6pm on Saturday.
