Zygabyte Old Bats have been crowned Mansfield and District Table Tennis League Division Two champions.

They lifted the trophy after a 6-4 win over the Rhinos to cap atremendous second half of the season.

The Old Bats didn’t win a game last season and ended the campaign with just two players.

But they recruited new players superbly, bringing in Nigel Stent, Rob Vaughan, Ralph Rodda and Matt Williams to join founders Glynn Payne

and Andy Hughes.

Old Bats recorded an unbeaten second half of the season to sore 64 points and win the title by seven points.

In the title decider Rob Vaughan won player-of-the-match in this very tight match, which saw Vaughan and Matt Williams for the Old Bats and Steve Scott and Richard Robinson for the Rhinos win two games each.

In the Shippam Cup semi-finals Zygabyte A beat Ravenshead Riots 366-333.

They will face Division Two team NewCross Snipers, who beat Ravenshead Rebels 337, later this month.

The Shippam Cup is a handicap team event where there are nine matches of two games to 21 points with every point counts, before a handicap is applied at the end of the match.
