Top class cross country runners will descend on Mansfield on Saturday when Berry Hill Park again hosts the National Cross-Country Relay Championships.
The schedule is: 11am Junior Womens (3×2.5K), 11.09am Under 17 Women, 11.40am Junior Men (3x3k), 12.10pm Under 17 years, 12.35pm Under 13 Girls, 1pm Under 13 Boys, 1.25pm Under 15 Girls, 1.50pm Under 15 Boys, 2.10pm Senior Women, and 2.40pm Senior Men.
However, the Dovedale Dash, which was set to draw local runners to the Peak District on Sunday, has been called off.
Organisers sent out a statement, saying: “The committee met yesterday and today on Thorpe Pastures and regretfully have to cancel this year’s race.
“The field where 500 cars are usually parked for the event is sodden with standing water in places.
“The forecast for the weekend is for more rain and high winds and in the circumstances we have no choice but to cancel this year’s race.
“Since the first race in 1953 it has been cancelled three times in 1998, 2000 and 2004 when the weather made it impossible to hold the event.”
