Sutton Sting beaten by Solway Sharks

Sutton Sting were beaten 6-4 by Solway Sharks following a poor second period.

After just 16 seconds Carl Ashton got a penalty for holding, but Sting stayed strong.

Ten minutes in to the first period Solway’s Robert Chalmers picked a penalty for interference, This set up nicely for Sutton’s Shaun Ashton to score the first goal of the game.

Matt Jeffcock followed Shaun Ashton to put a goal past assisted by Jon Woolhouse.

One minute into the second Carl Ashton got another penalty for cross checking. This led to Solway’s Pavol Melichercik finding the back of the net.

Just 10 seconds after Pavil Melichercik found his way into the back of the net again to tie the game 2-2.

Six minutes into the second and Solway was holding on to the puck too long for Sutton’s liking as Jens Engelen scored to put the Sharks 3-2 ahead.

It was an end to end game and Sharks scored again to go 4-2 up through Steven Moore.

One minute later Ross Murray scores an excellent solo goal to give Solway a commanding 5-2 lead.

With a 5-0 period Sutton knew they had to up their game if they wanted to get back in the game and they pulled a goal back through John Ross.

Solway restored their three goal cushion when Ross Murray got his second goal to make it 6-3.

With the sixth goal going in keeper Dmitri Zimozdra had enough and put youngster Zack Brown in net for his first time in a Sutton shirt.

Seven minutes later Sutton’s Ivo Celar found the back of the net to make it 6-4, but it was too little too late.
