Sting U16s romp to ice hockey title

Sutton Sting U16s produced a sensational 15-0 victory in their crucial must-win final game of the ice hockey season away at Coventry to be crowned champions.

Sting began the game at a fast pace with Jake Gamwell scoring in less than a minute, swiftly followed by goals from Tom Marshall, Jack Thornton and J.K. Smith.

Just four minutes into the game, the strong Sutton side led 4-0 and a second goal each for Gamwell and Smith saw the period end 6-0.

Good team play kept the puck in attack and Coventry were unable to answer the Sutton goals, while Sutton netminder Ross Carter ensured any shots on goal were promptly saved.

Four goals in the second period saw Sutton well on their way to securing the title, with Logan Fox scoring the team’s 100th goal of the season

Coventry battled hard, but could not contain Sutton, who added another five goals scored in the final period to seal promotion into Division One for the 2012/2013 season.

J.K. Smith finished with four goals and man of the match J. Gamwell a hat-trick with one apiece for T. Marshall, J. Thornton, L. Fox, J. Vickers, R. Chadburn, C. Clay, R. Gascoyne, and Glasby.
