New champions were crowned at Worksop Golf Club on Monday, at the 2016 Lee Westwood Junior Championship.
The tournament, backed by PING and promoted by the Worksop Guardian, is now in its 19th year.
And although Westwood himself couldn’t make it due to this week’s major in America, his mum Trish was on hand to dish out the trophies and prizes.
Taking home the pretigious silverware were new champions Amelia Wan and Kyle Thorpe.
Rufford Park junior Wan won the Stableford trophy thanks to her haul of 42 points, pipping Retford’s George Cordell and Worksop’s own Rebecca Oates by one and two points respectively.
Thorpe, a Worksop Golf Club member, shot a 75 gross to lift the Scratch trophy.
He was one shot better than Luca Durrant of Sherwood Forest and three shots better than Sitwell Park’s Lewis Brannigan.
Worksop’s secretary manager Alan Mansbridge paid tribute to the event’s organiser and sponsors.
He said: “All the juniors enjoyed the day and there was a very good attendance at the prize presentation.
“The day was exceptionally well organised by the new junior organiser of the Worksop Golf Club Juniors, Andy Oates.
“Thanks go to PING and Lee Westwood for providing the excellent prize table.
“This was the 19th Lee Westwood Junior Competition and a date will be set in the diary for the 20th event at a similar time next year.
“Any new juniors looking for membership can contact Andy at Worksop Golf Club.”
