ASHFIELD swim star Ollie Hynd was denied a debut Paralympic gold medal after he was beaten by less than a second by China’s Yinan Wang in tonight’s S8 400m freestyle final - but their was joy for his Kirkby family as brother Sam added bronze to Ollie’s silver medal.

Ollie, who swam third fastest in the heats, looked like he was going to make it a dream debut as he lead the gripping race at the 350m stage.

But Ollie faded in the home stretch allowing the powerful Wang to pip Hynd for the gold by just .77 of a second with a time of 4.27.11.

Sam, who was the defending champion from the Beijing games, failed to repeat that memorable swim as he secured bronze with a time of 4.32.93.
