An exciting local development aimed at promoting bowls saw more than 40 new bowlers enjoy coaching sessions throughout May and June at Farnsfield Bowling Club and at Southwell Town Bowling Club.

Over the nine weeks throughout May and June the two new U3A Groups (University of the Third Age) have learned the basic skills of the game from grip/stance/delivery, bowling to a good line, bowling to a good length as well as the basic rules, etiquettes and much, much more.

On Monday 29th June, in perfect bowling weather, both groups met up for the first time to enjoy a bowls drive with 24 players taking part in a two-bowl drawn pairs competition.

Participants enjoyed the competitive side of the game as well as the social side when their newly learned bowling skills were put to the test in a keenly contested, but very friendly morning of bowls.

The session was attended by bowls coaches from each club, Paul Ritchie and Vic Atkinson (Farnsfield) and Bob Pitcher and Jim Bell (Southwell) as well as other club officials.
