Mansfield Hockey Club were beaten 2-1 by Ashby on Saturday.
From early on in the game Ashby held a lot of the possession and the game was played mostly in Mansfield’s half.
Despite this Mansfield had the better chances to take the lead as they looked effective on the counter attacks.
After managing to hold off multiple more attacks from Ashby, Mansfield finally broke the deadlock through Jason Ward after winning a penalty corner 20 minutes into the game.
For the remainder of the first half, Mansfield were battling to keep the lead after they went down to 10 men as centre-back Matt Orridge was sin binned for ten minutes due to a bad tackle.
Ashby came out with a clear aim to win to game and pushed Mansfield back just like the first half.
The inevitable equaliser came as Ashby finally finished one of the several penalty corners that they had won.
The shot was looking like an easy save for Mansfield’s Keeper, but it took an unfortunate deflection into the goal.
This spurred Ashby on and, even though Mansfield were fighting to keep the game level, Ashby took the lead with five minutes to go after their centre forward found space.
