Mansfield Hockey Club were beaten 5-0 by an impressive Derwent side.

It completed a double for Derwent who had beaten Mansfeild 5-0 before Christmas.

Mansfield had a game plan which they were hoping could gain them a point or three, and throughout the first half they showed hope of it succeeding.

Derwent are strong in attack and Mansfield wanted to use this by cushioning the pressure and then breaking on the counter attack.

But Derwent were defiantly the stronger side and had some flowing attacks that could have given them an early opener. Mansfield’s first opportunities of a goal came from a couple of penalty corners that they won on the break.

But Derwent found the back of the net in the final ten minutes of the half after attacking down the right wing.

Going into the second half only the goal down Mansfield felt points were still possible.

This however was soon altered when Derwent scored a goal two minutes into the half as they passed the ball with ease around Mansfield goal keeper.

The gGame didn’t stretch much after Derwent had a two goal cushion. The Mansfield defence started to tire and Derwent were effective down both sides of the pitch.

Mansfield’s best chances in the second half came from penalty corners like in the first, although they could not gain a consolation goal.

Derwent wrapped the scoring up when they hit three more in the last 15 minutes, all from open play.
