Mansfield Harriers are to open up their training sessions to welcome anyone who is preparing to run the town’s 10k race on August 23.
Harriers are gearing up to help with the organisation of the town’s inaugural 10k road race along with partners from local charity Reach Mansfield, Mansfield 2020 and Mansfield District Council.
To help runners prepare for the race, the club is inviting anyone who is entering the race to go along and train with the Harriers at its Thursday night sessions.
The club meets at the sportshall West Notts College with training runs beginning at 6.30pm.
At each session there are five groups of different abilities so everyone can run with others of similar standard.
Groups are led by experienced coaches and cater for all abilities from the complete novice beginner through to the experienced 10k runner. These sessions are free to anyone who has entered the Reach Mansfield 10k.
Entries to the race can be made online through the link on the homepage of the club’s website at www.mansfieldharriers.co.uk.
The 10k takes place on Sunday, August 23 (9.30am) and replaces the well-supported Mansfield Half-Marathon, which ended in 2011 due to spiralling costs over health and safety after it had been a popular fixture for more than 30 years.
The race route consists of two 5k circuits of the town centre, starting at Titchfield Park at 9.30am with a unique finish in Mansfield market place.
Potential sponsors can contact Caroline Cox on 01623 422010 while anyone interested in volunteering on race day or leading up to the event can contact Anna at Reach on 01623 819066.
To secure your place in Mansfield’s first ever town centre 10K, runners can visit www.mansfield10k.co.uk or for further information contact Anna on the above number.
