MANSFIELD Harriers saved their best until the end of the season – winning their last match to retain their place in the prestigious British Athletics League.
Harriers came out top in the match at Windsor, meaning that they finish fourth overall with Cambridge and Bournemouth relegated.
Adam Sansom set a new lifetime best in winning the 400m Hurdles, his time of 54.83 taking half a second off his previous best and establishing a new club record. Stef Wilcockson won the B string in 55.97, a season’s best and just seven hundredths off his all time best.
Sam Cordin was also close to his all time best over 400m, his victory in 48.46 just three hundredths off his best mark.
Harriers dominated the middle distance events, Chris Brown and Stuart King taking the 800m double, Luke Cragg and King doing likewise over 1500m and Cragg then combining with James Mee to take maximum points over 5000m.
Greg Millar and Richard Woolley took full points in the Javelin, Millar throwing 58.47m and Woolley showing signs of returning to form with a best of 56.63m. Woolley also took second in the Shot, his best putt of 13.30 setting a new lifetime best and smashing his brother’s new club record.
The afternoon was rounded off in style withexcellent victories in both 4x400m and 4x100m relays.
