Mansfield Giants’ women’s team are still waiting for their first win of the National Basketball League, North Division season after a 62-50 defeat at the hands of Sefton Starlights.
Giants held their Liverpool visitors for much of a close and tense encounter, even though they were without starting point guard Steph Jones because of work commitments. The score read 28-28 at half-time and 43-43 at the end of the third quarter, with Beth Wheldon scoring seven points in a row at one stage. However, when Giants started to tire in the final quarter, Sefton took the opportunity to run at them and pour in the points.
The result left the Mansfield side bottom of the table after four straight losses. They now have a long Christmas break before returning to the court in mid-January for some tough away games.
