Confident Mansfield Giants have bolstered their roster by landing three explosive new signings for the new 2015/16 season in the National Basketball League, which begins this coming Saturday.
The Giants, who start with a Men’s National Shield, First Round tie at home to Calderdale Express at the Oak Tree Leisure Centre (2.30 pm), have welcomed trio Jo Jo Owusu-Ansah, Tomeo Sithole and Alain Adoumbaye to the club.
Owusa-Ansah is a player who has been on the Giants radar for a number of years now, and will finally pull on a Mansfield shirt after a successful spell with neighbours Derby Trailblazers. Sithole is an exciting prospect from Leicester who also spent some time with Owusa-Ansah in Derby. His above-the-rim style of play is sure to get the Giants fans on their feet this season. Adoumbaye, a 6’6” centre, who joins the Giants from Portuguese side Fidelidade, is another athletic player who is relentless on the boards.
Returning players from last season include crowd favourites Gary Collins, Joe Macdonald, Oliver Chenery and Barry Plummer. Head coach Ian Richards commented: ‘I’m extremely excited about this year’s team. We have a lot of speed and a good blend of youth and experience. Most of the team played together last season and that continuity is important in building chemistry”.
