Mansfield deserved better, says head coach

Mansfield 1sts head coach Wayne Robinson remained upbeat, despite his team's late profligacy as they let the chance of a losing bonus point slip away in the 35-24 home loss to Birstall.

“I thought we deserved better but we have to stay alert for the full 80 minutes,” he said. “Our loss of concentration at crucial times cost us.”

It was a close game that Mansfield could have won — and one that might have seen a losing bonus point picked up to add to the four-try bonus point.

Flankers Phil Pogmore and man-of-the-match John Tasker played well.

The defeat left Mansfield fourth in Midlands 3 East (North). On Saturday they travel to Belper, who are one point behind them in the table.
