It’s all smiles from the Sutton Swimming Club squad after they were confirmed as First Division champions of the Notts Sports Centre League.

In an exciting climax at the final gala of the league season at Retford last Saturday night, Sutton beat Sherwood, Newark, Mansfield, Retford and Worksop to claim the title at the first attempt.

They have won four of the five galas over the course of the season, enabling them to finish comfortably ahead of second-placed Sherwood and third-placed Retford.

But what makes Sutton’s triumph most remarkable is that, two years ago, they were languishing in Division Three of the competition.

After back-to-back promotions, they found themselves competing against the best teams in the county, which spurred on all the swimmers to scale new heights.

A series of outstanding performances has highlighted the rapid improvement made by the swimmers and by the club as a whole.
