The Giants Women continued their run of good form with a stunning 54-53 win in the dying seconds of the game against Northants Lightening.

The game was dramatically won after captain Alison Bridge hit a three-pointer with their last shot of the game.

It was an excellent display of team basketball as Mansfield gained revenge on the Northants side that had beaten the Giants by 22 points just two weeks ago.

Speaking after the game Bridge said: “Northants are a tough team and we knew we were going to be up against it today, but the team played great at both ends of the court for a full 40 minutes and it was one of those games that could have gone either way.

“It feels good to be back on track and we are feeling positive moving into the second half of the season.”

Once again the Giants hit the road understrength with just seven players, still missing key players and this time without influential powerhouse Jade Clemenson.

However, the team stayed positive and hit the ground running with youngster Chloe Gaynor picking up the first of the Giants points.

With some smart offensive play and sharp passing, the team just edged Lightening 13-11 in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the teams trading baskets, with Katy Taylor stepping in to score back to back long range shots and Charlotte Levitt showing her continued good form with more sharp shooting.

However, with Northants rotating their large bench, Giants began to tire, allowing Northants to pull together a five point lead going into the second half.

But the Giants side were not ready to let go without a fight, with Steph Jones leading the charge to pull back the points.

Once again, the side broke down the opposition’s defence to find Franky Harper open to add to the scoresheet, moving into the third quarter trailing 40-39.

With the final buzzer in sight, the fourth quarter continued to be tight, with Giants trying to make up the one point deficit for the majority of the quarter.

And, with just 15 seconds left, Northants charged to the basket taking them into a 53-51, leaving Giants with just one chance to score.

It was Giants captain Alison Bridge who stepped up to take the pressure shot, opting for her favourite spot on the 3 point line and sinking it in the dying seconds of the game.

Scorers; 14 Levitt, 11 Jones, 10 Gaynor
